Have you ever stopped to think about how much of life is controlled by fear? When you do, you find it worms its way into our thinking at every stage in life. Consider the fears most everbody has had at one point or another: fear of bullys, not being liked, being too fat or too thin, too big or too small, too smart or too dumb, bad hairdo, fear of pimples, bad dates, wrong job, getting married, whether we’ll have what it takes to raise kids, finances, health, problems related to marriage, work, or kids, and all that just for starters. If we’re young, we worry whether we’ll truly be able to “make it.” As we move through life, we worry whether we’ll be able to “keep it together.” As we get older, we worry whether we’ll be secure or have our health for the future. You’ve got to wonder: does fear ever take a vacation?
The simple answer is, no, it doesn’t. One of the greatest weapons formed against us is fear. If only we can be captivated by the “what if’s” of life, we won’t have time left for the “why not’s.” But here’s the deal: God is bigger than anything we have ever, are currently, or will ever fear. Indeed, like we read in the Word, “Perfect love casts out all fear.” Jesus didn’t have “don’t be afraid” as a signature phrase for no reason. He said it because He meant it. In Him we can find peace regardless of what we might be facing. Yes, we don’t know what the future holds, whether it regards our health, wealth, or welfare. But when we know personally the One who holds the future, our Lord Jesus Christ, we no longer need to be ruled by fear.
Instead of fretting over what might be, letting fear rule your life, make a decision, fresh every morning. One more day, to trust God. When you do, as you do, you will find what He has had for you all along: the peace that passes all understanding that will guard your heart and mind!
