Recently I’ve thought a lot about a phrase Paul uses in Ephesians. He writes, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (Ephesians 3:20) One part of that phrase has always stuck out at me: “exceedingly abundantly.” What in the world does that mean?
In the original language, “exceedingly abundantly” is actually just one word. Because the first part of it is “hyper,” as in “hyper abundantly,” various translators have chosen to translate it in ways that express better what he means: “Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more /immeasurably/ above and beyond/far more abundantly above all that we ask or think…” Just think: this is the kind of God we worship, the God who loves us and has great plans for every one of us, the God who is able to do far more than we could ever possibly imagine. Wow! How can you not love a God like that!
So why have I been thinking about this phrase recently? Simply because of all the amazing things I see God doing in our church. Over the last few months, I have seen Him breathe new life into so many different people and ministries. We have seen new things start up with a bang, and move people to new depths in their lives in Christ. We have seen our weekend services brimming with a sense of expectancy, with people coming not only to meet God, but to develop relationships with new people. We have seen folks step into ministry who have never done so before, at the same time thrilled to be serving God, yet a bit anxious because they’ve “never been there before.” I can tell you as the pastor who began this work, there’s not a whole lot that could thrill me more.
If it is really true, and it is, that God is doing a brand new thing in our midst, and if it is really true, and it is, that He is the one who is able to do more than we could ever imagine, more than we could ever even dream, how are we personally stepping into His work at Crossroads? Where is the place, the ministry, the opportunity God has waiting just for you?
I know God wants to unleash His power in our midst in incredible ways. Make sure to jump onto the wave of His power as it grows before our very eyes!
